Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has recently issued Invitations to Apply (ITAs) in the latest Express Entry draw.
A total of 1,613 ITAs were sent out, exclusively targeting candidates with a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) nomination through Express Entry.

To be eligible for this draw, candidates needed to have a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 743.
The most recent Express Entry draw prior to today’s took place on September 19, where 4,000 candidates from the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) were invited. To qualify, these candidates needed a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 509, a slight increase from the previous CEC draw on August 27, which required a score of 507.
CEC draws have become more frequent over the summer, with Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issuing 21,800 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to CEC candidates since July. This aligns with IRCC’s plan to focus on “domestic” draws, aiming to reduce the number of temporary residents in Canada while working toward their permanent residency goals for the year.
Today’s draw marks the first for this month. In October last year, IRCC held four draws, inviting a total of 9,173 candidates.
What is Express Entry?
Launched in 2015, Express Entry is a system used by IRCC to manage applications for economic immigration, helping to address labour market shortages. It evaluates candidates applying under three programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is used to assess candidates based on factors such as work experience, age, language proficiency, education, and occupation. Additional points can be awarded for candidates who immigrate with a spouse or partner, have a sibling in Canada, or have Canadian work experience or education.
Each factor contributes to a candidate’s overall score, with a higher score increasing the likelihood of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) in an upcoming Express Entry draw, depending on the type of draw.
Category-Based Selection
In category-based selection draws, Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores tend to be lower on average. These draw types, introduced by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) in May 2023, aim to select Express Entry candidates who can address urgent workforce or demographic needs. IRCC has identified six specific categories for these draws:
- Healthcare
- Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) professions
- Trades
- Transport
- Agriculture and Agri-Food
- French Language Proficiency
IRCC states that these categories were chosen after extensive consultations with various stakeholders and an analysis of labor market conditions, as well as the department’s goal of admitting 6% of all newcomers into French-speaking communities outside Quebec.
While the CRS cut-off scores for these category-based draws are generally lower than those in program-specific or general draws, candidates must still have an application in the Express Entry pool, and having a high CRS score remains advantageous.
