Three Canadian provinces this week nominated candidates under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).
County governments nominate candidates who are most likely to blend into the county’s workforce and can establish themselves financially.
Most provinces and territories (except Quebec and Nunavut) have PNP lotteries that target applicants in specific occupations such as health, engineering and business. This allows provinces to target candidates who can fill local job vacancies. Also, the federal government, through Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), will soon conduct explicit lotteries for certain occupations and future French language proficiency categories. If a PNP candidate is in the Express Entry and becomes a provincial candidate, they will automatically receive an additional 600 points in the general ranking system and#40;CRSand#41;. This is much more likely to get an invitation to apply.
Economic immigrant applicants who do not participate in the Express Entry program can still apply for a provincial nomination. This can enhance their overall permanent resident application.
Becoming an applicant is different from becoming a permanent resident. However, a provincially appointed candidate must apply separately to IRCC. This is because immigration is split between the provincial and federal governments.
Provincial immigration results 17-22. until June
Ontario
On June 20, Ontario invited 1,000 applicants for three positions as part of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) employer job offer.
The first draw took place for applicants who had job offers in the stream Employer Job Offer: Foreign employee. The province invited 426 candidates with at least 36 points and skilled business experience. In the second draw, 318 foreign workers who had a job offer in the health department participated. Applicants for this draw require a minimum of 33 points.
In the final draw, 256 applicants were invited to the general draw for the Employer’s job offer: In-Demand Skills stream. Applicants had to score at least 26 points.
British Columbia
British Columbia held four targeted draws on June 20 between BC PNP skilled workers and international applicants with advanced degrees (including Express Entry applicants). In total, more than 144 candidates were invited.
The biggest draw was 107 candidates practicing in engineering. Minimum cut-off points Skills Immigration Registration System and#40;SIRSand#41; was 90. The SIRS is similar to the Express Entry CRS score, but only applies to BC PNP applicants.
The remaining three draws targeted 18 early childhood educators and assistants, 19 health calling claimants and less than five other priority occupations. Applicants must score at least 60 points in each draw.
New Brunswick
New Brunswick has released the monthly results of the province’s Express Entry lotteries.
The province said it invited a total of 93 Express Entry applicants in three streams during May, including:
21 in NB Employment
10 in NB Student Connection
62 occupations required in the community
So far, New Brunswick has submitted 509 Provincial Express Entry applicants this year. March was the busiest month of 2023 so far, when 186 candidates were invited. This may have been because March was also the busiest month for federal Express Entry lotteries, with 21,667 applicants from across Canada invited.
