A total of 4,000 ITAs were issued exclusively to candidates in the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has released invitations to apply (ITAs) in the most recent Express Entry draw.

To be eligible, candidates needed a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 509.

Today’s draw marks the third of the month, following two held last week where 911 Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates and 1,000 French-language proficiency candidates were invited through category-based selection.

This is the largest Canadian Experience Class (CEC) draw since 5,000 candidates received ITAs on July 31.

The CRS score in today’s draw saw a slight increase compared to the last CEC draw on August 27, where the minimum required score was 507.

Express Entry is an application management system introduced in 2015 that handles three of Canada’s key economic immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class.

These programs use the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to score candidates based on key human capital factors, including language proficiency, education, work experience, age, and occupation. Additional points can be awarded for factors such as having a sibling in Canada, applying with a spouse or partner, or achieving a high Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) score in both English and French.

The combined scores for these factors contribute to a candidate’s overall CRS score, with those holding the highest scores being more likely to receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) in an upcoming Express Entry draw.

Last year, IRCC introduced category-based selection draws targeting Express Entry candidates with specific attributes, such as work experience or language proficiency. Six categories were selected, including:

  • Healthcare
  • Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) professions
  • Trades
  • Transport
  • Agriculture and agri-food
  • French language proficiency

These categories were chosen after consultations with various stakeholders to address workforce gaps in high-demand sectors and meet demographic goals. For instance, the French language proficiency category was introduced to support the settlement of newcomers in French-speaking minority communities outside Quebec.

Once a candidate receives an ITA, they have 60 days to submit their final application to IRCC, which aims to process Express Entry applications within six months.
